Flying Out to Ganymede
02:29
|
|||
[CHORUS]
Help me go (GO!) Navigate to Ganymede
Way, hay, flying out to Ganymede
Help me go (GO!) Navigate to Ganymede
The biggest moon of Jupiter
[VERSES]
Galileo saw it in his telescope
We’re gonna study its ice with a microscope
Has a salty ocean underneath its surface
The radiation out here makes me nervous
Only moon to have a magnetosphere
Has a very tenuous oxygen atmosphere
Pioneer 10 got to fly by it first
Voyager 2 took lots of pictures
Bigger than Mercury, Pluto, and Earth’s moon
Gonna study all of its ice cracks soon
|
||||
2. |
||||
[CHORUS]
Farewell once again to our pale blue dot
Will we ever know what our home is worth?
And when I’m in outer space, I’ll take solace in my thoughts
Of the cool green hills of our planet Earth
[VERSES]
Let the sweet fresh breezes of this sky heal me
As they rove around its mighty girth
Of our lovely mother home, this blue marble free
Of the cool green hills of our planet Earth
We rot in the molds of a hot Venus
We retch and writhe from her tainted breath
Foul jungles, poison dust, and flooded plains inhibit us
Crawling with a terrifying and uncertain death
We’ve tried to settle each new spinning space mote
And we’ve reckoned with how we measure worth
Take us all back again to the comfy homes of men
On the cool green hills of our planet Earth
The arching sky beckons with its call
Space settlers back to their favorite trade
"All hands! Stand by! Get ready for freefall!"
And the lights down below us start to slowly fade
Out ride the daring children of Earth, Terra
Far drives the mighty thundering fire jet
Up leaps an eager race to build another home in space
Out far beyond where we’ve been and onward yet
We pray for one last safe landing
On the globe that kindly gave us birth
Let us rest our tired eyes on the fleecy azure skies
And the cool green hills of our planet Earth

Apollo One
02:21
|
|||
[CHORUS]
Test away Apollo One
NASA’s away with Apollo One
Fare thee well, don’t stop til it’s done
They’re testing the crew of Apollo One
[VERSES]
Plucked from the finest of flight schools regaled
From Mitchell, Grand Rapids, and Texas they hailed
Grissom and Chaffee and Ed White unveiled
As the ones to the fly of Apollo One
Sputnik surprised us when it went overhead
Yuri then beat us, it filled us with dread
But Shepard and Glenn and Mercury led
To the test of the crew of Apollo One
Gemini marched on from Mercury
Strategically building technology
All were completed successfully
They’re testing the crew of Apollo One
The new Saturn V will be finished up soon
We’ll use propaganda and Disney cartoons
And beat the damn commies with men on the moon
They’re testing the crew of Apollo One

Of all the work that e’er I’ve done
I worked it chasing my wildest dream
And of all the pain my toils did bring
At least it was to mostly me
And all I’ve lost for the goals of my life
The list is long with many falls
So fill to me the parting glass
Good luck, and God be with you all
Through all the toil that I’ve been through
My mental health couldn’t take the strife
The FAA won’t approve the meds
That I need to function in daily life
Through all the school I breezed through with ease
One final test that I’ll never pass
So fill to me the parting glass
I won’t be joining this astronaut class
Of all the cohorts that e’er I’ve seen
None are better than the ones they chose
Of all the friendships that helped me through
Alas the road to my dream is closed
And since it falls onto my lot
That they shall fly, and I shall not
I’ll watch them fly among the stars
Good luck, and God be with you all
Someone may shoot for the Moon and miss
Doesn’t mean their life’s work fell in vain
Someone may halt an arduous trek
We can pray they find their purpose again
And though the brave will travel to space
I can’t join them in blissful freefall
Come fill to me the parting glass
Good luck, and God be with you all
So fill to me the parting glass
I can’t join any astronaut class

DART
02:23
|
|||
[CHORUS]
Throw a DART at a rock in the sky
Test the tech that we need to survive
Don’t let Earth get hit by meteors
Don’t go extinct like the dinosaurs
[VERSES]
The strategy for planetary defense
Tells us to test out what might make sense
To save planet Earth from hazards in space
Benefits all of the human race
The Double Asteroid Redirect’ Test
Tries the technique we think might work best
To stop the impact of PHOs
Not to be used against Earthly foes
Didymos has a small orbiting moon
Gonna get hit by a copper slug soon
DART’s gonna smack it and alter its speed
Much information from this test we’ll heed
Ground telescopes will observe the event
And measure the delta-V change implement
Its sister ship, AIM was meant to be flown
But ESA bailed, so we went in alone
Deflection? Disruption? We’re not really sure
Depends on the asteroid’s interior
Would it miss Earth entirely?
Or split up and rain down as space debris?
DARTs mission will give us much confidence
On how best to come to Earth’s defense
Let’s give a shout out to heroes we know
Hail Lindley Johnson and the PDCO!

UAE's Hope (مسبار الأمل)
02:05
|
|||
[VERSE 1]
From the sands where the Bedouin and Muslim nomads roamed
A national initiative where engineers and science found home
In a land where the desert sky allows one to navigate by stars
The first interplanetary mission from the country went to Mars
[CHORUS 1]
UAE has a mission to the Red Planet
And that Martian probe is called the Hope!
[VERSE 2]
The Mohammed bin Rashid Space Center was where the plans were laid
The science lead Sarah Al Amiri was the one who led the way
A humble but ambitious way to lead a nation’s critical campaign
A reminder to the Arab world that they can lead in science once again
[CHORUS 2]
UAE has a mission to the Red Planet
Emirates doing science ‘round the Red Planet
And that probe will give the region Hope!
[VERSE 3]
So it launched in July 2020 from Japan
(Lucky the pandemic didn’t cause a launch delay)
Filling gaps in our understanding of the Martian climate is the plan
(Building off the work that MAVEN still sends back today)
The mysteries of this planet’s water history won’t hidden very far
(Orbiting much higher than the probes that came before)
Someday Arabs will be roaming on this crimson desert planet 'neath the stars!
(And that Martian probe is called the)
[CHORUS 3]
UAE has a mission to the Red Planet
Emirates doing science ‘round the Red Planet
Studying the evolution of the Red Planet
And it gives humanity some Hope!

End Apollo
02:46
|
|||
[CHORUS]
End Apollo, end it,
Oh sadness reigns as we end it
For the mission is done and the funds don’t flow
And it’s time for us to end it
[VERSES]
I thought I heard our Congress say
End Apollo, end it
They took the taxpayer funding away
And it’s time for us to end it
We beat the Russians, and now we’re done
End Apollo, end it
We collected some rocks and we had our fun
But it’s time for us to end it
Our jobs returned ten-fold to GDP
End Apollo, end it
We led a boom advancing technology
Yet it’s time for us to end it
We built three more mighty Saturn Fives
End Apollo, end it
They rust away, mocking hungry lives
So why is it time to end it?
[OUTRO]
End Apollo, end it,
End Apollo, end it,
No bucks, no Buck Rodgers so they say
And it’s time for us to end it

Solar Weather
02:06
|
|||
[CHORUS]
And it's radiation, boys, Solar weather, boys
Out in deep space, we're all affected, boys
Dangerous energies, particles blow
Hurry to Mars now, boys, steady we go!
[VERSES]
Come all you brave astronauts, listen to me
I'll sing of the dangers yours eyes cannot see
Some of it’s trapped in Earth’s magnetic field
Some of it’s too strong to properly shield
We start with the alpha, a helium core
Rips through your DNA, organs, and more
Next is the beta, the smallest of all
Penetrates well from the solar wind squall
Then there’s the gamma, from matter decay
Comes from Sun flares and from stars far away
Cosmic rays are strongest of all
They’ll dazzle your eyes and rips right thought the walls

Everything was nominal and then we lost telemetry
Now we have an unscheduled rapid disassembly
“Lithospheric braking” is what I write down
It sounds a lot better than “it crashed into the ground”
I finish my report and send it to my supervisor
Now I’ve got to drug test and have a breathalyzer
He shouted to my face “what the hell is wrong with you?”
Our customers are mad because of this SNAFU
Situation Nominal! (All fired up!) (x4)
Everything is blown away (you won’t go to space today!)
Now we’re out in space and we maximize utility
Following the rules of space sustainability
Our data stream says the situation’s nominal
But space traffic says we’re outgassing volatiles
Drifting out in GEO to another orbit slot
Making other operators nervous and distraught
The government asked “what the hell is wrong with you?”
Our customers are mad because of this SNAFU
Embrace the SNAFU! (Before it’s FUBAR!) (x8)
Damn these satellites and their pitiful fragility
If I don’t correct it, we will face a liability
Light the ion thrusters up as if we’re tryna rave hard
Gotta send this mess up to the orbital graveyard
Finally get it up to its derelict home
Trying not to cause a bout of Kepler Syndrome
The owner operator wonders how it failed so hard
Our financiers are mad but hey at least it’s not FUBAR
Situation Nominal! (All fired up!) (x4)
Situation Nominal! (It’s not FUBAR!) (x4)
Everything is blown away (you won’t go to space today!)

Sirisha the Astronaut
01:58
|
|||
[CHORUS]
Way, ho, Sirisha, go!
Out of the blue sky and into the black!
Went into space and safely came back!
Inspiration to us below!
[VERSES]
Virgin’s VP of government affairs
She went beyond were eagles dare
Sir Richard Branson chose her to fly
On SpaceShip2 to go up in the sky
Out there in space, a glorious gem
A victory for education in STEM
Hero to young girls like no one before
Shattered glass ceiling all over the floor
No one will know what the future will bring
Now that she’s earned her astronaut wings!
Back on the ground it must feel so sour
We welcome you now to this happy hour

The Two-Body Problem
03:40
|
|||
[VERSE 1]
Let’s start this operation like we’re in math class
But we’ll do it backwards, a reverse PEMDAS
Add some attraction, subtract our clothes
Divide your legs, and multiply our pheromones
I’ll take you on an exponential cosmic ride
And we’ll make these parentheticals the new 69
I’m an integral lying tangent to your curves
Let’s do these exercises, it’s what you deserve
[CHORUS 1]
Two body problem!
Makin’ love in outer space!
It’s the two-body problem!
Following nature’s laws and Kepler’s too
You’ve got me fired up, I wanna give it to you
The two-body problem!
[VERSE 2]
Let switch gears and talk chemistry
You plus me is balanced stoichiometry
I’ll pump your body full of dopamine
Have you screaming for my touch like a serotonin fiend
Forming more bonds than a carbon chain
Got more chemical potential than the highest octane
Like hypergolic fuel, you’ll explode from my contact
So get strapped in and prepare for impact
[CHORUS 2]
Two body problem!
Doin’ the nasty in outer space!
It’s the two-body problem!
Up against the copula, we’ll take in the view
My rocket’s getting ready, gonna launch it at you
It’s the two-body problem!
[VERSE 3]
Let’s change our orbit to a physics class
I’ll accelerate some force through your center of mass
Turning our potential to kinetic energy
Feeling the friction from viscosity
I’ll use my unit vector to fill your null void
Make your head spin like a Newton cycloid
Your body and our variables are well-defined
So I’ll do percussive maintenance on you from behind
[CHORUS 3]
Two body problem!
Taking care of our bones in outer space
It’s the two-body problem!
Studying the curves of your anatomy
Our intertwining limbs will weave a tapestry
It’s the two-body problem!
[VERSE 4]
No, you’re not getting hit with GCRs
But your body pulsing heavy like a mega-quasar
Now I’m feeling like a modern Casanova
Hope you’re ready when you make me go supernova
Want to add another and break the mold?
Then we’ll solve this new problem with manifolds
Turns out we can do it analytically
One plus one plus another makes three
[CHORUS 4]
Three body problem!
Menage-a-trois in outer space!
It’s the three-body problem!
Solving our logistics problems big and small
They say that three’s a crowd, I’m gonna give it to y’all
It’s the three-body problem!
[OUTRO]
Three body problem!
Makin’ love in outer space!
It’s the three-body problem!
Following nature’s laws and Kepler’s too
You’ve got me fired up, I wanna give it to you
It’s the three-body problem!

Trappist 1D
03:14
|
|||
[CHORUS]
Cause we’re bound for Trappist-1D, from Sol, flying out to Trappist-1D
On a rocket hurled to an Earth-like world, now we’re bound for Trappist-1D
[VERSES]
Our planet’s dead and so we fled that poisoned atmosphere
We never learned and our home world burned just like many of us feared
We built this ship to save humankind from our own misguided deeds
And now we roam to find a new home, on our way to Trappist 1D
We wander free in a star-filled sea, to planet not well known
Our best space eyes couldn’t quite surmise whether it can be our new home
Thirty-nine light years from our toils and fears, and we don’t really know what we’ll see
A world so great or a deadly fate? What awaits us on Trappist 1-D?
The error bars on this brown dwarf star make it hard to see what it’s worth
We’re safe out here on this Ark so dear, we’re better out here than on Earth
But if we can’t settle on this exoplanet, what fate is in store for me?
We’d start anew, but with options few, hope it works on Trappist 1-D
For many years we’ve been stuck in here and our children will be too
Can we all survive, maybe grow and thrive, or will we meet our doom?
Is there life on there, or is it just bare, are the dinosaurs, whales, or trees?
We hope and pray we’ll settle one day on the world called Trappist 1-D

[VERSE 1]
Polaris was forged
Before the world was at war
For some Norwegians, their guests, and cooks
But this name that she bore
When she first left the shore
Wasn’t completely erased from the books
Cursed from beginning
For this mariner’s sinning
Her bougie interior glistened
Her shipbuilder’s bane
Was Shackleton’s gain
And thus, the ship was rechristened
She was built for the north
It was pretty straight forth
To refit her for a different mission
Her hull built for ice
Would surely suffice
On the journey to southern perdition
[INTERLUDE 1]
“Men wanted for hazardous journey.
Small wages, bitter cold,
Long months of complete darkness,
Constant danger, safe return doubtful.
Honour and recognition in case of success.”
[VERSE 2]
Ernest put out a call
To find the bravest of all
To traverse Antarctica on sled
Twenty-seven brave men
Came to Ernest’s dank den
Hoping they wouldn’t end up dead
Three life boats logged
And seventy sled dogs
Among the cargo she laden down
And at London’s Lloyd’s
They insured those boys
Valued at fifteen thousand pounds
They steamed away
For Vahsel Bay
For this Antarctic expedition
But for months they’d drift
In the iceberg rifts
On the journey to southern perdition
[CHORUS 2]
Endurance, Endurance
Bound for the Southern Seas
With your great brave crew
And Shackleton too
You’re remembered for eternity
Endurance, Endurance
Cutting through the ocean spray
With a great bold plan
To cross southern land
And Shackleton led the way
And Shackleton led the way
[VERSE 3]
Round Halloween
Of Nineteen fourteen
They left Brazil’s port of call
But the seas were rough
And the ice was tough
And they were hit with frozen squalls
By January’s Ides
They were two hundred miles
From their first ground destination
But those icy rifts
Rarely gave or split
Much to Shackleton’s frustration
They heaved and hoed
On the icy floes
With no break from these conditions
What rotten luck
The Endurance was stuck
In an icy southern perdition
[CHORUS 3]
Endurance, Endurance
Adrift in the Weddell Sea
She braced herself
Near the Ronne ice shelf
As the ridges heaved and squeezed
Endurance, Endurance
Fighting frostbite’s decay
With shovels in hand
They made their stand
And Shackleton led the way
And Shackleton led the way
[VERSE 4]
On Valentine’s Day
They clawed their way
Only four hundred yards from freedom
But the gales came in
And the ice froze again
So, they settled in a cold winter’s tedium
For the next half year
The froze their rears
Even had to put Mrs. Chippy down
In October’s ice rush
The hull got crushed
Had to abandon from the starboard bow
They camped in wait
For the weather to abate
But the ice dealt a final blow
On November twenty-one
The Endurance was done
And she sank to the depths below
[CHORUS 4]
Endurance, Endurance
Now just a memory
With split deck planks
The ship she sank
Like lead into the sea
Endurance, Endurance
Your crew stranded far away
But with three life boats
They still had hope
And Shackleton led the way
And Shackleton led the way
[VERSE 5]
By April of sixteen
The crew caught a gleam
Of a place called Elephant Isle
But it was so remote
That no explorer’s boat
Would pass within a hundred miles
Ernest enlisted five
Of his most dependable guys
To find a busier port of call
And on the James Caird
They small crew sailed
On the greatest sea journey of all
Eight hundred miles
On a sea so wild
But they made to Haakon Bay
Three had to stay put
Three walked on foot
To a town forty clicks away
[CHORUS 5]
James Caird, James Caird
One lifeboat, cold and damp
South Georgia’s shore
Was where they moored
And they called it Peggotty Camp
James Caird, James Caird
Their lives don’t end today
Three men would go
Over mountains and snow
And Shackleton led the way
And Shackleton led the way
[VERSE 6]
A Norwegian whaler
Saved the other three sailors
And luck was finally on their side
But the Endurance’s crew
Was surely through
If Ernest couldn’t get them a ride
Three times they failed
To break the ice shelf’s gales
By August it was looking dire
But on the fourth go
A ship called Yelcho
Got them set for Elephant Isle
The ship was true
And the weather was too
And they made it through an ice transition
They found those men
And set sail again
Delivered from southern perdition
[CHORUS 6]
Endurance, Endurance
All twenty-eight-crew survived
They went through hell
With a tale to tell
And records for the London archives
Endurance, Endurance
Not one had passed away
Three years apart
From their lover’s hearts
And Shackleton led the way
And Shackleton led the way
[VERSE 7]
No ticker tape parade
For the men so brave
Cause the war had not yet relented
But the records they kept
From Endurance’s wreck
Meant their legacy was cemented
Over a century later
A submarine crew made her
Off Palmer’s eastern bank
Her discovery
‘Neath the Weddell Sea
Was only four miles from where she sank
Now we look to the stars
To the Moon and Mars
The next frontier of exploration
And now we need
Someone to lead
The next daring generation
(Do you have what it takes?)
[CHORUS 7]
Endurance, Endurance
We’ve found you once again
A historic site
Neath a frozen blight
A monument to great brave men
Endurance, Endurance
The folly of a man obsessed
Three clicks below
Where the mariners go
Is where you’re laid to rest
Is where you’re laid to rest
[OUTRO]
Endurance, Endurance
Lost to the Southern Seas
But your great brave crew
And Shackleton too
Are remembered for eternity
But your great brave crew
And Shackleton too
Are remembered for eternity
They’re remembered for eternity
